Family Mediation is the process by which divorcing or separating couples are assisted by trained Family Mediators in resolving areas of dispute. These may include:
- Financial arrangements
- Division of property
- Arrangements for their children
Our mediators have undertaken mediation training with Resolution and act as neutral third parties in helping you to reach an agreement with your partner. We offer 2 mediation models; either a single Solicitor-Mediator or Co-Mediators. The mediators’ different professional backgrounds reflect the fact that the breakdown of a relationship involves both legal issues and emotional concerns in which many conflicting feelings are felt by the individuals involved. Impartiality is maintained throughout. Whichever model you choose, the advantages of Mediation include:
- A reduction in the feelings of hostility
- Mutually agreed outcomes (rather than outcomes imposed by the court or negotiated by others)
- A greater focussing upon the needs of the children
- Flexibility
- Outcomes which are more likely to be implemented
- Cost effectiveness
It is a requirement that each party has their own solicitor, who advises before and after the mediation sessions, but who is not present during any session.
